Arne Slot Maintains He Is Safe and Retains Liverpool's Backing After PSV Loss

Arne Slot admitted that it was understandable for questions to be asked about his position following a further heavy defeat versus the Dutch champions.

The Reds suffered their 9th defeat in twelve games, representing the team's worst run after being relegated in the 1953-54 season.

They were dominated by the Eredivisie champions on a tough night at their home ground.

“I am feeling safe, I am OK, I have got plenty of support from above,” Slot remarked.

“It's important to reverse this trend and get a victory naturally but if you are in a managerial role and not doing well then it's expected that questions are asked.”

He added, “I am OK with my position. It is not the first time I’ve been in a tough spot but it's necessary that we turned it around.”

Talks with Liverpool Hierarchy

When asked to expand on his dialogues with the club's leadership, the head coach revealed:

“There's regular dialogue. They assist to the team and to me and we have those conversations but they don't phone me every single minute of the day to say they have faith in me.”

He added, “During our regular exchanges I sense the belief. However I haven’t spoken to them after this game so far so let’s see.”

Persistent Failings and Player Reaction

Slot lamented known failings from his Liverpool side in their European defeat, namely poor finishing and leaking goals.

Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was more forthright in his view of the team's situation.

“I don’t have the answers. Truthfully, I don’t. I'm telling that to everybody,” the midfielder remarked.

“It's simply unacceptable. I don’t even have to wait to consider it. I’m past feeling anger inside. I've reached the stage now where I just don’t have the words.”

He continued, “It's difficult because I’m playing for the team I support. I’m a fan, and I've watched Liverpool since I was young.”

“In recent memory, I've not seen a Liverpool team experiencing a spell of this nature with performances like these.”

Jones stated, “But we continue to wear the crest on our chest. And until it is gone, we’re always going to battle.”

“We’re going to try to help the side return to where it needs to be, show everyone once more what Liverpool stands for and the reason it's called the top club in the planet.”

“However currently, we're in trouble and it needs to change.”
