Former Physician Faces Assault Allegations Involving Thirty-Eight Patients

Prosecutors report that a former doctor now faces charges for performing assaults against thirty-eight victims who were patients.

The Serious Allegations

Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham is accused of numerous acts of sexual assault – comprising acts against minors under the age of thirteen – between 2017 and 2021.

One senior prosecutor stated, “Our prosecutors have diligently worked to assist a detailed and complex investigation, carefully reviewing the available evidence to determine that there is sufficient evidence to bring the case to trial and that it is in the public interest.”

Scope of the Police Inquiry

The charges follow what investigators called a “complex investigation” into alleged sexual offences at two hospitals: the Royal Stoke university hospital and Russells Hall hospital.

The defendant is due to appear at the local magistrates' court on 20 January.

Breakdown of Charges

The charging documents said the forty-five charges he is charged with:

  • Fifteen counts of sexual assault.
  • 17 counts of assault by penetration.
  • 9 counts of assault on a minor under thirteen.
  • Three counts of assault of a child under 13 by penetration.
  • One count of attempted penetrative assault.
