The former Liverpool manager states coming back to manage Liverpool is plausible in theory.
Jurgen Klopp, who stepped down from Liverpool in 2024, remarked that rejoining the club is a possibility. Klopp, after a transformative near-decade reign which brought a European Cup triumph and the Premier League crown for three decades, currently occupies positions as head of global soccer with the Red Bull group and as an advisor for the DFL.
Fan Sentiment and Klopp’s Candid Remarks
They secured the league title last season, yet numerous supporters holding him in high esteem would welcome the notion that he might come back one day. During an extensive chat, he told Steven Bartlett: “I stated I will never coach another team on English soil. So that means in case it's my former club...yeah. In theory, it could happen.”
“At 58 years old, which suggests I could make the decision in a few years, it's uncertain. Is a decision required immediately? If so, I wouldn't return. Luckily, it's not necessary. I'll wait and observe what lies ahead.”
Conditions for a Comeback
Questioned regarding the specific conditions would need to occur to tempt his return to the touchline, Klopp admitted he feels no immediate pull to such a return. “I'm not entirely sure, I love what I do right now,” he said. “I don't crave being a coach; I don’t miss standing under bad weather for lengthy sessions; No need for media briefings four times, three times a week or having 10-12 interviews a week.
“No nostalgia for the changing area in that context, however, dining out with the players enjoying conversation, that’s nice. We won a lot of games meaning regularly great spirits around the place. Remaining with me is Virgil [Van Dijk’s] laugh ringing in my ears as an instance.”
Commending Arne Slot
He spoke highly for his successor, crediting him due to the changes which secured the championship in the previous season. The team has suffered a string of losses across various tournaments following significant transfers, but he rubbished the notion that it might signal a slump.
“[Liverpool have] a top-class attacker like Florian Wirtz, you will all eat your words with negative comments. An outstanding player. Ekitike, incredible player. This is a well-built well-judged squad. Fans shouldn't fret regarding the Reds, they'll bounce back.”
Emotional Tribute for the Late Forward
Klopp also spoke emotionally about the death of Jota, a 2020 acquisition while in charge, along with the consequences on Liverpool. The Portugal international died tragically in a car crash with his brother this past summer.
“Can you substitute a person like him? It goes beyond the player himself, his personality mattered. It's hard to picture the dressing room missing him. Putting it into words is tough about it. A profound tragedy for all the boys also. Nobody at Liverpool will ever use it to justify results but it is the situation. You walk in a dressing room where he was omnipresent. Coping with it emotionally is not easy. Unbearable.”
