The Hit Drama Announced for Seventh Season on the British Broadcaster
The acclaimed crime series Line of Duty will make a comeback for its seventh installment, announced by the broadcaster.
A brand new six-part series created by the show's creator will begin filming in Northern Ireland this spring, according to the production team.
Vicky McClure shared her enthusiasm about the comeback, saying she was "so excited" about the show's renewal. Adrian Dunbar remarked, "How wonderful it is to know that the Three Amigos will be back filming together next year."
The previous series concluded in recent years with a final episode that attracted over 17 million viewers. Speculation about a potential return have been widespread ever since, but official word only came this week.
New Challenges for AC-12
The seventh season will open with the anti-corruption unit having been disbanded and rebranded as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, as revealed by production details.
Steve Arnott, Vicky McClure's role, and Adrian Dunbar's part remain tasked to combat corruption within the law enforcement.
Their work "faces unprecedented challenges", and under these circumstances, the trio are assigned their "most sensitive case so far."
New Character and Complex Case
An additional officer, Det Insp Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charming officer known for takedowns of criminal networks, faces allegations of abusing his position to act as a sexual predator.
Yet, this investigation could be a deliberate distraction from a larger danger still active in the shadows, the teaser hinted.
In a statement, the creator commented: "All cast and crew feels enormous gratitude to the dedicated viewers."
"We're privileged to have had countless fans track the ups and downs of the unit over multiple series and we couldn't be more delighted to be coming back for a seventh installment."
Mercurio continued: "Misconduct in the UK is supposed to have ended while the series was off air, so I've been forced to use my imagination."
Actor Responses
Martin Compston called appearing in the series as "the role of a career".
"Beyond the show's success but the people I've worked with I now call dear friends."
"I can't wait to pull the waistcoat on again and reunite with everyone," he said.
The Nottingham-born actress remarked: "Obviously I'm very happy the show is back! Eager to work with the creator, Martin and Dunbar again. Belfast, we'll be there shortly!"
The veteran actor noted: "While anticipating the AC-12 return, how exciting it is to know that the Three Amigos will be back filming soon."
"Pleased with the news and anticipating those mercurial twists and turns."
Show History
The drama launched in the early 2010s and evolved into one of the most popular television series of the past ten years, attracting notable actors such as Stephen Graham.
The BBC haven't revealed when the upcoming series will hit screens.
The finale of season six drew the long-running storyline about the hunt for criminal mastermind known as "the mysterious H" to a close, and producers indicated at the moment there were no plans for further series.
However, the corporation announced on Tuesday that a new season is now being produced.
