The network's Premier Fresh Series of 2025 Secures a Major Renewal for Two More Seasons.
During the fall season, Adult Swim welcomed back its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. However, later that same month, the channel unveiled a completely new animated series with a strikingly different vibe. Haha, You Clowns was gentle and comforting, in the spirit of a animated take of a laid-back talk show. In an era often defined by bleakness, this show's wholesomeness resonated deeply and turned it into a surprise hit.
A Significant Investment
On December 18th, Adult Swim revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for two additional seasons. This gives creator Joe Cappa significant creative freedom to expand upon the world of the Campbell family. The show centers on three respectful teenage brothers whose defining trait is their profound affection for their single father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four key characters.
"My deepest thanks go to the fans of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and shared it with others," stated Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to continue exploring the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."
A President's Endorsement
The official statement also included praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "profoundly sincere and strangely uncanny." He shouted out the fans who embraced the show and advocated for its distinctly quirky sensibility.
"All of you got behind this new show, rooted for it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Wholesome Alternative
When it first aired, Haha, You Clowns was described as "a gentle counterpart" to other adult animated fare. It offers something unexpectedly cozy about watching this endearing family go about their everyday routines.
Previously, creator Joe Cappa shared his hope to evolve comedy past its long-running cynical streak. He traced this trend to a broader media landscape.
“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we keep returning to,” said Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we just have to laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”
Future Seasons
Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa may well be part of that comedic shift. Or at the very least, the renewal guarantees audiences more opportunities to enjoy the warm glow of the unique Campbell clan.
The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. The entire series is ready to watch on HBO Max.
