The Porcine Pardon: Pig Named 6-7 Granted Clemency by Miami-Dade Mayor.
It might not have been at the identical stature as sparing festive fowl, but the county's top official had her own Donald Trump moment this week by formally pardoning the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“This pig is innocent. She deserves this act of mercy. No offenses are on her docket,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with obvious nods to the vast quantity of pardons issued since the beginning of a new presidential term.
“Unless you count eating half a dozen apples per day,” the mayor added. “May this pig enjoy a long and happy life free from concern.”
This ceremony, simultaneously observing and challenging the region’s Hispanic tradition of feasting on pork during the holidays, was established to replicate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The pig, contributed by a local firefighter, was given its name from the modern linguistic fad of young people exclaiming “six-seven” – deriving from a musical verse – often without clear purpose. The trend became so widespread that a major dictionary recently made “6-7” its top term for the year.
A Future Secured
Six Seven the pig is now destined to live out its days at a farm sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the ceremony's official statement.
“The annual pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to kick off the festive period,” said the cafe owner, in a notably cheerful message.
“It represents the essence of Miami: vibrant, multicultural, and grounded in customs that foster togetherness. Each year, we are proud to celebrate heritage and mercy in a way distinctively Miamian.”
Participants enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach fritters and strong coffee as they celebrated the swine's new lease on life.
