The Red Devils Set to Sign German Forward Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific German forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from Bayern Munich.

A Marquee Signing for United

Schüller, who has half a year remaining on her contract, is known as a consistent goal-getter for her club and the national team. She has scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a major signing for the Women’s Super League team.

Departure from Bayern has been anticipated after she was seen holding back emotions while applauding the club's fans following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

Reports in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its leading forwards. Per reports, the formalities for the transfer are now finalised.

Consistent Goal Threat to Boost United's Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s signing is expected to provide a significant boost to the team's attacking options. Schüller has been highly reliable with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the last term, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Building Steam at Carrington

The acquisition of the German international comes at a time when United seem to be building positive momentum.

Their recent performances feature qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the mid-season window has seen additional business:

  1. The signing of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since arriving in 2023.

On the midfielder's new deal, a club official commented: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill enables her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

Lundkvist, who has joined from a club in the American league, added: “You can feel how much the club have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
