Two Victims Identified in Brown University Incident as Law Enforcement Continue Search for Killer.

Both young individuals who lost their lives in the weekend's tragic incident on the university campus had tributes paid to them on Monday – as a manhunt for their killer continued following the release by local law enforcement of the single suspect of interest in the case.

Tributes for Ella Cook

The student Ella Cook, a second-year scholar from Alabama, was described as “an amazing, stable, pious, radiant soul”, per the Birmingham's Cathedral Church of the Advent, which offered condolences for her at a gathering on Sunday.

Cook was second-in-command of Brown’s branch of the campus GOP group, the group said. The White House press secretary also expressed words of sorrow on social media, remarking: “Words cannot express. Keeping in mind her loved ones and companions, especially her parents.”

MukhammadAziz Umurzokov

The second fatality was MukhammadAziz Umurzokov, an Uzbek national in his first year of studies at the prestigious university, family members said.

The victim's identification was confirmed by the Uzbek Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“He was incredibly kind, funny, and smart. He harbored grand aspirations of entering the field of neurosurgery and assisting patients,” his sister, Samira Umurzokova said in a online post.

What Happened

Nine more persons were injured in the weekend shooting in the school of engineering of Brown’s grounds in Providence, during the school’s final exam period.

Officials stated on Sunday evening that a man aged 24 taken into custody in a search at a lodging about 17 miles from the university earlier in the day was set to be freed.

“A perpetrator remains free,” said Peter Neronha, Peter Neronha.

Neronha explained, “Sometimes you head in one direction, and then you must reassess and pursue a different angle, and that is the current situation over the last 24 hours or so.”

Community Anxiety

The city's mayor, Brett Smiley, acknowledged: “It is expected to provoke renewed concern for our city”.

The assailant opened fire inside a room in the engineering facility on Saturday afternoon, firing more than 40 rounds from a 9mm pistol, a law enforcement official reported to the media outlet.

Law enforcement that searched the inn found a pair of pistols and magazines when the suspect was taken into custody, the news agency reported.

Those Hurt

Regarding the nine injured, one student was released from the hospital, said the university president, Christina Paxson. An additional seven were in critical but stable condition, and one was in critical condition, police said on Sunday.

An educational institution, a private K-12 school in North Carolina, said a recent graduate, Kendall Turner, was one of the critically injured.

Additional Memorials

Cook was remembered at a memorial in Birmingham on Sunday. A pastor commented, “She was an incredible, grounded, faithful bright light not only during her upbringing... but at the university she was a radiant presence in that specific location as well.”

The president of College Republicans, Martin Bertao, released remarks from the group. “She was famed for her courageous, valiant, and compassionate nature as she aided her club and fellow classmates,” he said.

The US ambassador, Jonathan Henick, said he was “profoundly grieved” by Umurzokov’s death in a statement. “We extend our sincere condolences to the Umurzokov family, friends, and fellow students and lament the passing of his bright future.”

The weekend's murders at Brown, the country's seventh most historic university with about over seven thousand undergraduate and three thousand graduate students, happened during one of at least nearly 400 mass shootings reported in the US so far in the current year, according to records.
